This blog is meant to provide a glimpse into my experiences, thoughts, and feelings while living abroad. I am pursuing my master's degree in women's and gender studies through the GEMMA Erasmus Mundus program. For the 2015-2016 academic year I will be attending the University of Granada in Granada, Spain and for the 2016-2017 academic year I will be attending Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. More information about the GEMMA program can be found on their homepage : http://masteres.ugr.es/gemma/
For those readers who are not already aware, gender studies is a field of interdisciplinary study that focuses primarily on gender identity and gender representation as categories for analysis for the human experience. As a field, gender studies also includes more specific subfields, including women's studies, men's studies, LGTB studies, and sexuality studies. I am also acting a guest contributor for a young European feminist blog. This blog is bringing together feminists throughout Europe in a common space and it is truly an honor to be included. That blog can be found at: http://www.europeanyoungfeminists.eu/ Additionally, I kept a blog during my undergraduate studying abroad experience in both Granada, Spain and Alcalá de Henares, Spain. Entries from those trips are hosted on Wordpress and can be accessed through this URL: https://buenviajegranada2012.wordpress.com/ |
By the nature of this blog, the content is rather intimate and at times it may be uncomfortable to read. But I am a fervent believer in telling your story with your whole heart and that is how I write this blog. I hope that as you read my thoughts, feelings, worries, and joys you will feel like are experiencing this adventure alongside me. As a blogger, I love feedback and interaction so please feel free to comment on any post or to ask any questions!
A little about the new and (hopefully) improved format of the blog: I will now be keeping both a more intimate diary-style blog and also a separate blog with lighter weekly highlights. The latest entries for both will be highlighted below and the two blogs can be accessed in their entirety through the tabs at the top of the page. In addition to the blog, I have also added two new sections: "Photo Gallery" and "Trip Tips". The first is, as the name suggests, a collection of photos that I've gathered throughout my travels (in case you'd rather see than read). The second section contains recommendations I have compiled of things to do and places to eat, drink, and party for places that I am (at least partially) familiar with from my own travel experiences. Both of these sections will continue to be updated as I gain more knowledge and have more adventures so make sure you check them out periodically! Welcome and enjoy! |
Hungary: A Brief HistoryIt has come to my attention that I arrived in my new country in a state of complete and utter naivety. I had been so focused on the whole "returning to Spain" part of my program that I totally sidestepped the whole "moving to Hungary" part... oops... But better late than never, right? And what better day to reflect on the history of Hungary than on today, October 23, 2016, which is the 60th anniversary of Hungarian independence from Russia!
